LASIK & Cataract Surgery
LASIK
During your LASIK pre-operative consultation, Dr. DeBass will conduct a comprehensive eye examination and assess the
accuracy of your prescription. After evaluating your eyes for any eye diseases or health problems that could potentially
impact the outcome of your surgery; she will discuss your expectations for LASIK and whether it is possible to attain them.
While LASIK is an exciting alternative for vision correction, it’s not a choice you should make based on marketing or
price alone. It is a complex procedure requiring careful consideration, several clinical visits, and guidance in selecting
the best surgeon and laser system for your eyes and visual demands.
If LASIK is right for you, Dr. DeBass will refer you to an experienced surgeon for the procedure. She and the staff will
continue to assist and support you through your post-operative period.
Cataract Surgery
A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens in the human eye, resulting most often in halos, glare or a general decrease
in vision. While cataracts are most often a result of aging, systemic conditions, medications, or trauma can also play a role
in the development. During cataract surgery, this cloudy, natural lens is removed by an ophthalmologist and replaced by
artificial, intraocular lens implant.
If, during your comprehensive examination, you are found to have visually significant cataracts and may benefit from
removal, Dr. DeBass will refer you a qualified cataract surgeon. She will review the procedure with you and what to expect of
both the pre- and post-operative periods. Dr. DeBass will answer any questions you may have about cataracts or the procedure,
and is happy to schedule an additional visit with you prior to your surgery if any additional questions or concerns may arise.
In addition, should you choose, your post-operative appointments can be scheduled with Dr. DeBass at the Chatham EyeCare
Center.
